Posted By: Mezolino Tue, Feb 07, 2012 IP: 88.151.146.70

Hi to every one,
first a happy new year to all ;-).
And now a question.
Could this be a authentic Xu Beihong?
A expert sayd no, because this subject stand in no catalogue and books?
What is your opinion please?
Is there any expert in this field?
Would be very kind.
Ok, thank you very much in advance.
And all the best to you...

Best regards
Mezolino

I agree with your expert: this is not by Xu Beihong despite his "signature", the painting quality is very low, Xu did not paint in this style or this subject. It was instead painted in recent years, given a false signature, and distressed to give it the appearance of age.

rat,

really & how would you know, aside from looking at pictures. can you show where is a xu beihong original painting or are you saying that all the xu beihong in museum or auctions are originals.
i only seen 2 xu beihong paintings but not the ones in museums or auctions. Those have his name & seals but not done by a good artist, could even had the same name as xu beihong. If chinese paintings would cost that much, auction house would not need a chinese specialist to decribe paintings. experts knows art, chinese knows names in art paintings.

tom, any idiot who has spent more than 20 minutes looking at Xu Beihong paintings and even good fakes of Xu Beihong paintings will come to the same conclusion, but obviously you are free to believe what you want. i offer my opinion based on my experience. you are free to reject it. some Xu Beihongs in museums and undoubtedly some Xu Beihongs at auction are fake, and some are not. that's how it is; deal with it.

for one recent example, read the following: http://www.artinfo.com/news/story/38647/art-school-exercise-mistaken-for-classic-chinese-painting-sells-for-114-million-at-auction/

Tommy, rat had already made it clear why he thinks this is not a xubeihong. Even an unschooled person like me knows that this cannot be a real article from a master artist. What is your point, tommy, other than just rambling on. I have read your previous posts and, maybe its me, but for the life of me i dont know what you are trying to say. Just alot of jibberish.
