Subject:Is this mark a fake or possibly real?
Posted By: sheri Fri, Mar 02, 2012 IP: 97.117.210.196

I read a most knowledgeable and informative article from J.P. O'Brien on seal marks and I am now wondering if the seal mark I have on a piece of porcelain is authentic.. Thank you for any comments! I really appreciate them.

If you post photos of the piece, you may have a helpful response regarding when and where it was made.

In-focus photos in natural light would be most helpful, preferably against a neutral-grey background. There should be an overall photo from the side at 90 degrees, more if there is decoration all around, at least one closeup in-focus of the decoration if any, a photo of the whole base at a slight angle, and a closeup in-focus of the mark.

Good luck,
Cal

With only one tiny photo of bottle, hard to tell much but look like made 1950s-later possibly China.

With closeups of decoration about 600 pixels wide, and photo of whole base, some might have more detailed or different opinion.

Mark is ~*least*~ important feature of Chinese-type ceramics for determine age, where made and quality.

Good luck,
Cal
