Subject:Chinese calligraphy ID?
Posted By: Kendall Fri, Mar 23, 2012 IP: 38.99.34.6

HI,

Unfortunately I'm completely in the dark when it comes to Asian culture, but I'm curious about these characters, printed on very thin, old paper. Are they individual characters, or do they combine as in a paragraph? Thanks for any info you might be able to pass on.

neither. these are not a form of writing per se but are a group of seal impressions, perhaps a group of seals belonging to one individual, perhaps various seals belonging to various people. it's not possible to tell from your photograph.

These look like seal impressions. Could you please post a larger picture so we can read the characters - or if you prefer, send me an email and I will look at them for you.

The characters are undecipherable in such a small-size image, but the red areas look like imprints of Chinese 'chops' or seals, which most commonly were used in olden days to make impressions of one's legal name on official documents.

Perhaps someone would be able to give you more information if a readable image could be provided.

Best regards,

Bill H.

HI
Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my post and to pass along some enlightening information. I appreciate it. I'll try to post a couple of clear, close-up images tomorrow.

Best regards,
Kendall
