Subject:Chinese writing

I have inherited what I am told is an ancient chinese goddess statue, however, that is all I know. There is very old chinese writing on the bottom and I am told that this is what will help to determine the age of the statue. Is there anyone on this forum that may be able to decipher it from if I provide a picture or be able to direct to someone that can? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please let me through email and I can get the picture to you.

without good photographs it's hard to say much of anything about your vase, but it may be that it is stamped or painted on the base with a Chinese imperial reign period from the Ming or Qing dynasties. the problem is that many later vessels bear earlier reign marks, so you still need to do some stylistic analysis to figure out when your object was made. hence the need for photos. marks by themselves almost never validate a piece.
