Subject:Help identifying needle painting signature
Posted By: Ruth Seabrook Sat, Jun 02, 2012 IP: 86.134.36.177

Hi,

This may be a long shot, but does anyone have any idea of the origin/age of this signature?

We've been told that the top two characters may translate as 'Dragon King' in Chinese, but were also told that the artist may have been Japanese.

Any help that anyone can offer would be great.

Many thanks.

yes, the characters can be read that way, or simply as the Chinese surname Wang plus the given name Long. providing pictures of the entire piece might supply the context necessary to determine its origins.

An embroidered piece might be sort-of copy or inspired by an actual painting, so might bear whatever the embroiderer thought was a signature on original piece. Embroiderer might only have poor photograph or print of what was copied.

Is much easier for viewers to evaluate meaning if you show in-focus images of whole piece.

Good luck,
Cal
