Can anyone id the era an origin. The ffont of the design ha a profile of an elephant with a large tusk while the other side appears to have an etched apron hanging from the top as like a piece of clothing

Could be glass or jade. Do a scratch test. Elephants are indigenous to China in a very limited area. China�s elephants can only be found in the extreme south of the Yunnan province bordering Burma and Laos. This may provide an idea of origin.

The carving doesn't look particularly high quality to me.

Take a strong needle and make a 2-3 mm scratch. Put enough pressure on to make a tiny white or black line.Tell us the result.
