Subject:Foo Dog Urn + Asian Hutch
Posted By: Jennifer Tue, Jul 24, 2012 IP: 76.95.24.157

This is an urn and hutch from my grandparents' estate. We are interested in finding out more about them and a recommendation on the best way to sell them. We live in the Los Angeles area.

I found Sotheby's in Los Angeles to be good.

The urn is probably from the 1930s.

The furniture is not a 'hutch', although it looks like some kind of cabinet placed on a non-matching stand. Lacquer decoration such as this appeared from the 1st quarter of the 19th century especially on French furniture, then middle-19th-century on USA furniture, then again in 1940s when imitation Chippendale was popular.

You can find a branch of famous auction house near you who can do appraisal of items. If you can't find them in your telephone directory or in an on-line directory search, call the LA County Museum of Art for suggestions.

Good Luck,
Cal
