Subject:Estimate value for Qianlong piece
Posted By: Annie Van Langenhoven Wed, Sep 19, 2012 IP: 24.9.113.96

Hello, I'm not familiar with this type of art. Can you please give me an estimated value for this vase? I believe it is from China, Qianlong Yu Zhi - but I may be wrong... any help is much appreciated!

That looks like a circa mid-20th century Chinese vase of eggshell-thin porcelain with a polychrome transfer-decorated motif of dragons amidst flowers. Your best bet for getting an idea of value is to search the Chinese porcelain category of eBay, while including the term 'eggshell vase' (if I'm right about it being eggshell). Such vases are somewhat more collectible than other 20th century Chinese transfer-decorated wares.

Good luck,

Bill H.

Hallo Annie,

The mark reads (turned 90 degrees) "Qianlong nian zhi" but my Guess is that the vase dates from the Guangxu period (or later).

Regards / groeten,

Arjan

The mark is a 20th c. stamp of Qianlong, and the artistry of the vase appears to be that of the mass produced pieces of the 1950's or later.

Depending on size, it is worth about $10-20 as a decorative piece, but I confess that I find these in almost every thrift store for just a few dollars.

Your late 20th century vase with apocryphal poorly stamped Qianlong mark would have value of half amount of similarly sized decorative vase now in department store. Half amount simply because not 'brand new' but 'used' (pre-owned). If you go to sell would be about 1/3 amount of 'new'.

Good luck,
Cal
