Subject:Need Help Identifying Old Asian Bowl
Posted By: Linda Fri, Sep 28, 2012 IP: 71.50.123.207

Hi. I would appreciate your help in identifying the country and age of this bowl. It's uneven, measuring 8" and 8-1/2" across the top). It has a partial red mark on the bottom and Asian characters on one side. Thanks very much!

The secure website link you provided apparently doesn't work for outsiders.

I'm sorry, I don't know why it didn't work. I have made it public, so you should see it now.

The painting style and enamels on your Chinese crane bowl show a degree of evolution past the brushwork and colors I'd expect to see on late Qing wares. It probably was made for domestic and regional export markets circa 1930. The four character inscription on the side in black reads from the right as the blessing, 'May your longevity achieve the span of the Southern Mountains' (Shou bi Nan Shan).

Best regards,

Bill H.
