Subject:Genuine or copy Chenghua 'Boys' jar????
Posted By: Tim Sun, Oct 21, 2012 IP: 76.108.41.153

Since I can only post 3 photos at a time, I am including a link to my online photo album that has extensive photos of the 'Boys' jar.

The jar measures about 10" tall, nicely balanced, pure white porcelain with a slight blue color to the slip, and polished foot ring.

The mark is centered, but its orientation does not line up exactly with the center of the front panel (if the boy with the mask is located at 12 o'clock, the mark lines up at 11 o'clock).

However, the fine detail and piling of light/dark blues is exceptional.

Recent copy. Possibly last 10 years. Base all wrong and also look into the dragon's mouth then you will see.

Is not a copy but *is* quite recent. This shape and 'hundred boys' decoration not found in early Ming dynasty.

Good luck,
Cal
