Subject:Qing-Republic Jar Query
Posted By: David Sun, Nov 04, 2012 IP: 173.33.46.252 This query is directed to the Asian ceramic experts! I possess a supposed 5 3/8" high late Qing-Republic scroll and lotus pattern ceramic jar in excellent condition, which, unfortunately, is unmarked, however, I had said jar critiqued by 2 anonymous experts; since the critiques I had made an effort to sell the jar for a reasonable amount, with little success; from what I have seen on various private and auction sites, there are similar jars (some of which are also unmarked and, in some cases, less aesthetically appealing than mine, selling for decent amounts); I don't mean to sound biased but why would my jar be so unappealing! Puzzling! It is not like these jars are cluttering shelf space! Your opinion on this matter would be greatly appreciated! (Photos can be arranged!). Thank you for your time! David. |

Subject:Qing-Republic Jar Query
Posted By: rat Mon, Nov 05, 2012 can't say for sure, but surely size, condition, and rarity, not to mention the quality of the potting and decoration, can all affect price. try quadrupling the price; there's a lot of dopes out there. |

Subject:Qing-Republic Jar Query
Posted By: Nev Mon, Nov 05, 2012 David, it is a matter of finding a buyer. I think many auction houses charge considerable commissions and have the advertising clout to draw the $ in. Ebay seems to be a bit of a dead end these days with many things relisting without bids. I sell quite well on Craigslist for about 2/3 of ebay prices but I do live in a city with a big Chinese population. The buyers are often mainland Chinese visitors taking these things back with them. Give it a try. |
