Subject:Help with identification of Antique Bronze Chinese flask
Posted By: Kevin Warrick Wed, Nov 14, 2012 IP: 64.146.159.40 Hello, my name is Kevin Warrick and I have an item that I have inherited from my father who recently passed away. This is an unusual bronze flask that I believe is Chinese but I cannot be sure as I do not read Chinese or Japanese. |

Subject:Help with identification of Antique Bronze Chinese flask
Posted By: rat Wed, Nov 14, 2012 these have been emerging in recent years. they are Chinese and I think they are meant as bedwarmers: to be filled with hot water and put under blankets to warm a bed up. their decoration and coloring is all rather similar, though this one is different from the others I've seen in its decoration (a big "fu" character covers most of the front, "good fortune"), and the opening for the water is along the edge rather than in the center. I bought one of these when they first appeared but don't now believe that they are genuine folk art, much less an antique, or even a bedwarmer for practical use. |
