Subject:Help with identification of Antique Bronze Chinese flask
Posted By: Kevin Warrick Wed, Nov 14, 2012 IP: 64.146.159.40

Hello, my name is Kevin Warrick and I have an item that I have inherited from my father who recently passed away. This is an unusual bronze flask that I believe is Chinese but I cannot be sure as I do not read Chinese or Japanese.

If you have someone in your establishment that is knowledgeable in this area, I would be extremely grateful. I have inserted some pictures for your viewing to help with the identification of this piece or what it maybe worth. If there is anything else I can provide please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Respectfully submitted, Kevin Warrick

these have been emerging in recent years. they are Chinese and I think they are meant as bedwarmers: to be filled with hot water and put under blankets to warm a bed up. their decoration and coloring is all rather similar, though this one is different from the others I've seen in its decoration (a big "fu" character covers most of the front, "good fortune"), and the opening for the water is along the edge rather than in the center. I bought one of these when they first appeared but don't now believe that they are genuine folk art, much less an antique, or even a bedwarmer for practical use.

Thanks for you input, it helps a lot. I have a buyer for it so I guess it doesn't matter now, Thanks again.
