Subject:Help identifying print brought from Japan in 1956

My father purchased this print when he was in Japan in 1956. It appears to be black or charcoal ink. I can't tell if it's silk or some other textile.

I've never seen anything quite like it and would like to learn more about it.

Looks like this is a rubbing of a stone carving of Confucius, likely from somewhere in China. Here is how they are made:
