Subject:help needed with asian vases

Hi, my father has come across 2 what we think are either japanese or chinese vases. They stand about 6 -7 inches, are hand painted and contain gold leaf throughout. The painting on them epicts japenese/chinese families on an asian beach with mountains etc. No manufacture markings of any sort, just a small japanese/chinese red, scratched in symbol on the bottom. Will post a picture soon but can anyone help me from the information i have provided, thanks in advance
