Subject:Coffee Cup millefiori on gold --probably contemporary
Posted By: E.A. Booze Sat, Jan 26, 2013 IP: 24.19.51.89

Please forgive me if this is not anything of any value. But I have been searching to see whether this large coffee cup is Japanese, or Chinese and who made it and when. If is porcelain and the bottom is a very thin procelian that lets light through. From what I have learned in my internet searches is that the Chinese made coffee cups but the Japanese tended to stick to making tea cups. It is marked. I think that the marking are Chinese but can't seem to find any characters that match. The cup is 4.5" tall and the millefiori work is raised and I think is is enamal paint.

Hi Solas,

Your coffee cup is Japanese,
The mark reads "Kutani". Probably made in the second quarter of the 20th. Century.

Regards,

Arjan

The mark reads 'Kutani' - so it must be Japanese ware with millefiori decoration.
