Subject:Enameled crackle glazed vases with an apocryphal Chenghua mark
Posted By: Phil Craig Wed, Jan 30, 2013 IP: 71.84.109.53

Hi,

My mom passed away and I am going to be selling her collections.

This is a pair of 18" tall vases. 7" diameter at mouth and 5 3/8" at base.

I'm trying to get a ball park on value and a better identification of what they are. All she left me was a note the said "these are valuable" (not a lot of help).

These are late-Qing, Guangxu-period (1875-1908) baluster vases with famille rose "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" motifs and molded applications of immature dragons (Chilong) at the shoulders and Buddhistic lion handles on the necks. They have apocryphal Ming Chenghua reign marks on the bases. Despite the interior chip off one foot, the pair should be worth at least US$750-1000, possibly more, on a good day at the auction house.

Best regards,

Bill H.
