Possibly neither. Poorly and recently incorporates motifs from so-called 'black ship' decorated Chinese porcelain made for export. Yours could be made Indonesia, Singapore, or decorated Macau on Chinese blank.

Good luck,
Cal

Wait… wait…….
Don’t throw away your bowl now on base on the opinion(s) so far. (sorry Cal)
I’m “at work” now and can’t post pictures here. I hope I can post some, to compare, tonight or maybe tomorrow.
As mentioned by Cal and suggested by me your bowl has the “Black Ship decoration/ theme”. But this “theme” and your bowl is Japanese and not Chinese.
Most collectors know the examples (f.i. Dashoji) of the Meiji period with this theme wich are often finely decorated.
Compared to these yours looks a bit naïve or -as Cal called it- poorly painted. I agree with Cal that often this is a sign of later remake but in this case, I think, it’s not. Imho It’s the opposite this time and I think that yours is older than the Meiji ones.
So keep your bowl for the moment and please wait for my pictures so you can make your own conclusion.

Regards,

Arjan

Hi all,

Back at home so I can post some pictures. The first one (picture 1 & 2)comes from the Book Japanese porcelain from P.L.W. Arts and is described as early 18th. Century). The second one (picture 3) I don't know for sure but maybe someone who can read Kanji can help.

This one(s) comes closest (I think) to Beli's one. Look at the detail of the last picture and compare it to the second picture of Beli.
These are dated: 1810/1820.
So what's your opinion? new or old?

Regards,

Arjan

Hi all,

Another (1810/1820) picture of a bottom to compare with second picture of Beli. It hasn't the blue border around it but forgetting that it is rather close I think.

Regards,

Arjan
