Subject:White Jade brush pot imperial?
Posted By: Trent Fri, Mar 29, 2013 IP: 70.188.235.187 Hello, I was wondering the age/value of this white jade brush pot. Also, there is a signature on the bottom and I was wondering if it is imperial? |

Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Sat, Mar 30, 2013 Sorry..this carving was made within the last 15 years. In comparison with older carvings, this one is rather poorly carved, especially the seal, which on its own shows that the item is modern. If it is Jade, one has to handle it, but most of the time a scratch test will tell. |

Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Wed, May 01, 2013 The mass production of this type of Jade Mountain started about in the beginning of this Century. Meanwhile it seems that this particular production has slowed down considerably. |

Posted By: Supe Sun, Mar 31, 2013 It does have a QianLong seal on its bottom, unfortunately this is neither a QialLong piece or even a Qing dynasty piece because neither its material or its workmanship reflect that. I believe it is a modern piece and it may be made of nephrite but I cannot tell for sure because it appears to be white in your pictures and material of white jade pieces were the most difficult to tell from pictures alone. Even it can pass the scratch test, there is no guarantee it would be made of genuine nephrite. It is not a bad study piece especially if it was made of nephrite. |
