Subject:Japanese Woodcut prints
Posted By: Ian Moroney Tue, Apr 09, 2013 IP: 120.148.19.193

Hi, I have come across about 25 prints brought back from Japan in the 1940's I believe they are part of a series of prints called "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido Road" by Ando Hiroshige
Scans of a couple are attached.
Does anyone know if they are worth much ?

thanks
Ian

These are reproductions of Hiroshige's Hoeido Edition of his 53 Stations of the Tokaido Road series. If they are woodblock prints (as opposed to some other form of repro) thay are worth upwards of $50 each. See artelino.com for auction prices.

See link below for a station 43 (Kuwana) original.

Cheers,
Stan

Thanks for the info Stan.
How do I tell if they are woodblock prints?
these pictures are 10 1/4 X 10 1/4 inches and some of them are printed on very thin paper with bleeding through to back (see attached Picture)

Ian,

They are woodblock prints. However, they have been downsized. The original prints are about 10 X 15 inches. That $50 per estimate is high since they are smaller.

Cheers,
Stan
