Subject:Resizing Pics Down to 100 Kb?
Posted By: Lauren Sun, Apr 21, 2013 IP: 24.115.98.104

I have tried everything to get my pics small enough to post here, but without luck. Can someone tell me how? I tried uploading them to photobucket using the very lowest resolution available, and that wasn't enough (it cut the size from 1mb to 500kb). I tried resizing in my own photo program hoping that would bring the size down, but that didn't do anything either.

Help. Thanks!

If your PC is running Windows, it most likely came bundled with the Paint program. If you have a fairly new edition (I'm running Windows 7), your Paint program may allow you to reduce(or enlarge) photos by either percentage or pixels.

So, check to see if you have Paint, then right click on a photo from your files, Then on the menu that pops up, left-click on 'open with paint'. When Paint opens with your image, look under the 'home' heading, and left-click 'resize', then select 'pixels'. Be sure to tick the box in the middle labeled 'maintain aspect ratio'.

Once you have reduced the image size to a maximum pixel width of about 500, left-click the button at the top left corner (color blue on my screen), and move the cursor to the 'save as' button, then select 'jpeg' on the menu that appears. This willopen the window that lets you select the file location.

I was able to reduce the image shown herewith from almost 2 mb down to about 77 at 450 x 337 pixels. It may take some trial and error with pictures from a different camera.

Hope you have Paint and find it works for you, but take my advice and buy Adobe's entry-level Photoshop Elements if you want to ease the task of editing (at least with a little practice).

Good luck,

Bill H.
