Subject:any help identifying age/material of faux ivory sculpture?
Posted By: kevin Wed, Apr 24, 2013 IP: 24.105.236.11 I am downsizing my collection and had this piece laying around. it measures 14" high and appears to be some sort of faux composite ivory. I am asking for any information at all about the piece. age, material, subject matter, signature, anything would be helpful. I was going to list it on Ebay so any idea of value would be appreciated as well. Thanks everyone! |

Posted By: Bill H Fri, Apr 26, 2013 A lot of these chinoiserie figurines are made of cast resin or a mixture of resin and bone powder. Many like this "beauty", which has faux markings to go with the faux ivory, probably date from around the 1920's to the 1950's. They don't seem to do very well at auction, as the below link to a result shows. However, as long as there are retro decorators, there'll probably be a market for them somewhere. |

Posted By: kevin Fri, Apr 26, 2013 Thanks Bill. That at least helps me out a little bit. I didn't think it was terribly "valuable" but just wanted to make sure before I sell it lol I appreciate your response |
