Subject:Kuan Yin
Posted By: Rachel Tue, May 28, 2013 IP: 198.228.228.165

Hello-
I am hoping to gain insight on the attached piece of art.
Im unable to find another piece with identical characteristics- both Kwan Yin as well as its "plaque" style.
Aside from being told my mother once attempted to "clean" the bronze (yikes if that's true), the only information I have is that the figure is Kwan Yin and that it is old.

I would love to more about the piece, style, the age, etc. and would greatly appreciate any information on the matter.

Thank you for your time in reading this.

Why are you sure the figure depicts Guanyin ? I am quite sure is not Guanyin, for example the robe Guanyin uses is totally different. Maybe figure depicts Parvati by the position of body, semitransparent clothes.
Kind regards

Thank you for responding. I was told "Kwan Yin" and naturally started there in my search. Her hands, as I recall was the reason behind suggesting, "Kwan Yin".

I am without any previous knowlege in this area and will search further into Parvati, thank you.

Any thoughts as to what the piece may be? Or the age?
I received an email that stated the following, verbatim, "I think this item is from mid 20th cent, probably not as old as you might think. Since it is molded, not hand carved, it does not have much value."
Any thoughts on that information-- do you concur?

Thank you for your time in reading this. I would greatly appreciate any additional help you may be able to offer. .
Thanks!
