Posted By: Gary Tue, Jun 11, 2013 IP: 86.179.107.52

I have this very nice picture but I cannot understand the signature,, it appears to be a Monk,, it's done in very thick black ink raised you can feel it when out of frame,, I'm not sure if it's drawn painted or printed,, any information would be gratfully appriciated.

The signature seems to read "G. Yastreb", which would appear to be Russian, based on my Google search responses, all of which pertained to another artist with the same last name but who was not born until 1945.

FYI, your picture looks to be an engraving, judging by its raised ink. Wonder if the subject might be a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church dressed in a plain sleeved vestment with rosary around his neck?

Good luck,

Bill H.
