Subject:Valuable vase?

Just curious if this vase is of any value. I recently purchased at a yard sale.

Your vase has above-average decoration in what I believe to be one of the standard Imari patterns for Japanese late Meiji-period export ceramics and probably dates from about the late 19th-early 20th century. Beyond the matter of age, value would depend on condition and size, which you don't mention. The piece appears to have a metal collar, which isn't a common feature on Japanese wares like this and may hide damage to the neck. There also looks to be a star crack in the base. Issues like this diminish value greatly.

I suggest you search the term "Imari vase" on websites such as eBay and liveauctioneers.com (where you have to sign up to see auction hammer prices) to get an appreciation of current values.

Best regards,

Bill H.
