Subject:Old Red & Gold Kutani Porcelain Bowl Please Help with Age & Value
Posted By: Jeanne Sun, Jun 16, 2013 IP: 75.84.55.131

Hi again, I'll be listing this old Kutani porcelain bowl on ebay and would like to identify it accurately. The pictures on the exterior sides are all different and the rim is scalloped. I think this is an important piece. Can anyone please help me with dating, valuing and identifying the artist?

Thank you in advance.
Jeanne

The mark appears to read down and across from the top right as "Kutani, Kazunori" (九谷一宣), with the left two characters also used as another Japanese given name, "Kazunobu".

My Google query turned up nothing immediately identifiable with Kutani wares marked with the presumed kanji or transcribed versions of these characters. The last character is fairly indistinct in your photos, so if you can get a better close-up of the mark, I'll take another look to see if it might be something else.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Bowl shows no age/ patina to the gold gilt, so it doesn't appear to be very old, but the artistry is nice. There should be 8 objects rendered on the sides of the bowl. These are the 8 precious objects of Buddha (baxia). Probably early 20th c.
