Subject:Chinese Silk Painting - Seal And Character Identification
Posted By: Anthony Sun, Jun 16, 2013 IP: 108.194.38.0 I recently purchased this silk painting at a garage sale and am having trouble identifying the artist's seal and the writing next to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

Posted By: Bill H Wed, Jun 19, 2013 The characters I can make out the best are the first two at the top right, a cyclical date of Xinhai, which in the context of the modern figural painting style would be 1971. This appears to be a painting of a generic "Beauty" (meiren) of a type that was turned out in great numbers for marketing by China Arts & Crafts stores and other outlets at a time when Chinese artists were working hard to try to help the country recover from economic problems relating to the Cultural Revolution. |
