Subject:Not sure if this vase was made in Asia- possibly China?
Posted By: Elizabeth Heferen Mon, Jun 17, 2013 IP: 211.30.52.103

I recently bought this vase, I have checked and can find no production marks- is a set of figures on the base. I have been told that a friend's mother had one years ago and he remembers her saying hers came from China??? Any one have any ideas?

Japanese....probably 1920-30, but could be later.

This is a Japanese vase, probably dating from the late 19th-early 20th century. Such pottery was quite popular in the West during the late Victorian and concurrent Art Nouveau eras, and Japanese makers of it were well represented at world trade expositions held in Europe and North America at that time. The factory markings on the base reveal nothing about the maker, though many studios in the Kyoto area were engaged in the painting of this kind of crackle-glaze stoneware.

Best regards,

Bill H.
