Subject:Possible wooden Tara Mask...origins?
Posted By: Mel Sat, Aug 31, 2013 IP: 184.5.49.77 I recently picked up a mask at a local antique collector's shop; he wasn't sure on the origins. I did a little research, and it appears to be some sort of Tara Mask (either Buddhist or Hindu), but I can't confirm that information, or figure out the age or country of origin. Can anyone specializing in this area help me? Thanks!! Feel free to email me and I'll send you the pics. Mel |

Posted By: Bill H Sun, Sep 01, 2013 Can't comment on whether it is a Tara or not, but the style reminds me of Indonesian Balinese carvings (see link). I believe Brahmanism traditionally was the principal religion on Bali before the advent of Islam. |
