Subject:2 Satsuma Picture Vases - Information Please!
Posted By: Lori Kohler Thu, Sep 19, 2013 IP: 50.53.228.186

Hello, I have these 2 vases and know nothing about them...can you help please? After visiting a couple of Antique stores I think they are called Satsuma Picture Vases. they have gold on them, and are gilded. They are 12" tall, 4.25" at the base, and 5" at the top. They are in perfect shape. Both are signed on the bottom. They were a wedding gift to a woman that just turned 90 recently and she sold them to me. can you please share information and perhaps tell me the value these vases have? Thank you very much...Lori

The mark reads 'migi jûichi' ('migi' - right hand side; 'jûichi' - eleven) probably indicating that it is the vase at the right of a pair followed by a serial production mumber 11).
This is cheap, mass produced Japanese export ware with Satsuma motives, ca 1930s. Value is really low end.

Guy
