Subject:Strange Buddhist Tantric Bell
Posted By: JMorgan Thu, Nov 28, 2013 IP: 76.118.223.210

Hello all. I was hoping that someone might have some information about this object. All I know is that it is some type of ritual bell used in Buddhist Tantra, and that the open tongs of the vajra handle indicate that it was used for wrathful purposes, what ever those would consist of. It looks very old, and had bronze disease on it when I recieved it, most of which I removed. Other than this, I know nothing about it. Of all places, I got it from Ebay at a very low cost. The seller had no idea what it was. Maybe someone here will. Thanks!

Hi, This bell is Javanese, whether its a period piece or a later reproduction I can't say - many reproductions of early Javanese bronzes were made in the Dutch colonial period and later.
