Subject:identify kutani mark on sake set
Posted By: David Tue, Dec 17, 2013 IP: 99.236.194.58

Hello All! Can anyone identify the Kutani mark on this sake set and what style of cups are these; they have a spout or some kind of sipping hole? Any assistance with this query would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! David.

The Kutani mark reads down and across from the top right as "Kutani Eiraku", with the Eiraku kilns being some of the more famous in the Kutani area.

When in use as intended, the bird atop the tokkuri or sake dispenser, as well as the fluted parts on the drinking cups, all emit a whistling sort of trill.

Best regards,

Bill H.
