Subject:identify mark on 4" Satsuma egg
Posted By: David Fri, Feb 21, 2014 IP: 99.236.194.58 Hello All! Can anyone identify the mark on this 4" Satsuma egg; I have attached a color and b&w pic of the mark (it is a difficult mark to read, even on my end!). Any assistance with this query would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! David. |

Posted By: Bill H Sun, Feb 23, 2014 This isn't a character but a scroll motif commonly called an "arabesque" and frequently encountered in Chinese and Japanese ceramic patterns. Here's an enlargement of a section of diaper on a late 19th century Guangxu-period vase. |
