Subject:Personal art piece
Posted By: James Edwin Childers Mon, Mar 31, 2014 IP: 98.255.236.138

I could use some guidance as far as this reported birthday card given to me from a friend on the Mainland for some services rendered for his family.

I appears to be very old and I can not tell the period or the subject matter/artist/time period. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated. Regards James

Seems Japanese due to man's robe and hair knot. Hope someone else will help with the marks.

There is so much more of this interesting piece that we need to see in order to unravel the question.

The seal you have shown states that this is from the "hall of the Spirit of Painting", but I cannot see where that would be on the painting.

The colophon in the top left corner of the painting has more information, but is too indistinct to be read.

Where does the middle photograph come from? There is nothing like that in the painting that we can see.

If you want more information you will have to give more information - i.e. more and better pictures.

Thank you for your suggestions...I will now post some more of this card form item. Please let me know if you need anything else in your discovery.

"Paintings of People", recently created but given a false date of 1876 in the leftmost column (your second photo in this group; the full date is visible in your next set of pictures), painted after the style of Shanghai school artists.
