Subject:Qianjiang porcelain plaque - Artist? Translation of Poem
Posted By: Tim Wed, Jul 30, 2014 IP: 172.56.1.29

I just acquired this Qianjiang porcelain plaque. Would someone please provide a translation of the poem and identify the artist?

I removed it from the frame - porcelain measures 16.5" x 11.75", but decorated area is 14.25" x 9". Frame measures 18.5" x 14.5".

There were sections of rolled up newspaper used to keep the plaque from moving within the frame. I unrolled one and it turned out to be an ad for a Miller kyrosene stove (discounted from $5.25 to $3.99). From my research the ad is from the turn of the century.

Thanks for the help!

The stated date corresponds to summer 1921, product of the Yonghua Company. the couplet describes a scene of trees, cloud, and green. Not sure this should be described as Qianjiang, but is a much more painterly scene than usual (probably due to its large size) whose dramatic rock forms remind me of late Ming painter Wu Bin. Interesting to see such exact edges around the picture, seems rather atypical.
