Can someone help me out with resources on line that I could research, to help translate Japanese and Chinese characters.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can you explain what you are trying to do in more detail? There are different options depending on whether you are able to input characters yourself, there are online dictionaries, etc.

Thank you Rat for your response.
I am looking for a resource, where I can research Japanese and Chinese characters, translate hallmarks, artist signatures, etc.

I have a earlier posting for a sign, so far no help with the translation. I've looked on line for a translation resource with little success. Hope you can help!

Yes, I saw your sign and it strikes me as Chinese but I can't figure out what it is supposed to be about.

There aren't any easy answers to your question. I don't know Japanese sources well but you can find some excellent sources on the internet by searching by medium, eg "Japanese signatures on netsuke/Satsuma/ukiyo-e" etc.

Specialized reference books and websites/dictionaries also exist that won't help you without some existing language skill. Some less specialized but excellent references for marks on Chinese porcelain include Gerald Davison's book and information at the Gotheborg.com website and discussion board.
