Subject:Translation/artist? Chinese painting
Posted By: Tim Tue, Nov 04, 2014 IP: 172.56.26.153 I bought this 19th c. Chinese scroll painting. Scene depicts a man fighting with a tiger with his bare hands, a man sleeping with a broom by his side, hunters who come upon a man in a deer costume (praying?). The scene reminds me of the classic Chinese story, Water Margin. Can someone offer a translation of the two passages and an identification of the artist? Thank you! |

Subject:Translation/artist? Chinese painting
Posted By: rat Fri, Nov 07, 2014 sounds right on to me. the artist is signing himself as 勉軒主人, a nickname I don't see in my references, and I'm not getting any flashes of inspiration on the seal legend. Date is winter renzi year, probably 1912, maybe 1852. |
