Subject:18th c. bronze JUE vessel - Help with archaic mark
Posted By: Tim Mon, Jan 12, 2015 IP: 76.110.209.69

I have a bronze wine vessel (jue) with a rather unusual mark on the base. Anyone out there who can translate it?

My vessel is identical in size, age, and taotie 'mask' design as one sold by Christie's London, however the Christie's one is missing the capped pillars and there is no mention of any mark. Considering what it sold for, I suspect the Christie's example did not have any markings and perhaps the pillars had broken off.

Any help offered is much appreciated.

Thanks!

sorry, I can't make it out clearly enough to even tell whether I'd be able to look it up somewhere. The inscription seems to be commemorating a (Korean?) wedding, which doesn't seem like the thing to carve in an 18th century jue, but who knows.
