Subject:Chinese Ceremonial Battle Axes?
Posted By: richard Sun, Jan 25, 2015 IP: 86.139.223.91

Dear All,

Could some one on this forum please shed some light on these 3 items. I bought these 3 items out of a deceased estate some time ago. Recently I decided to take them to a general valuer and was told they are reproducions. This surprised me as they genuienly look old and seem to be made of stone and metal/bronz?
I can't find anything like this anywhere on the Internet and came across this site while searching. Maybe some one here can point me in the right direction what these items are and how to find out if they are repro or "old".
Thanks in advance for any ones help here.

They are indeed made of stone and metal but they are also reproductions/imitations of Chinese weapons. Ernst and others who comment here on jade objects and other stone objects can tell you a bit about the aging and distressing techniques the Chinese use on stone. It's possible these are more than a decade or two old, but I very much doubt they precede the early 20th century.

Indeed, rat, these are most likely made somewhere from app. 1940 on. With the help of acids, salt water, and some dye stuff (brown), they are now genuine "antiques".I am sure that there are some "Museums" in China who still sell them.
Ernest
