Subject:From a dive at Tha Chin River Basin, Thailand - Chinese cracked glaze celadon(?) blue and white two dragons rice bowl
Posted By: Richard Sun, Feb 15, 2015 IP: 183.89.6.36

Dear all

I have bought a number of bowls, clay vases and other ephemera from a friend who goes diving in the Tha Chin River Basin in Suphan Buri, Thailand.

They are remarkable and of interest.

Would anyone be able to give any knowledge as to their origin and age?

Yours sincerely

Richard

The three-clawed dragon on this bowl has more of a Japanese look to it. Bowl is transfer-decorated, probably early 20th century. Might have been left behind by Japanese forces in Southeast Asia for WWII.

There's always a chance that any archeological ceramics dug or dredged up in Thailand were made there, despite whatever else the decoration may suggest. Thailand's kiln industry dates back eons.

Best regards,

Bill H.
