Subject:porcelain lotus serving spoon
Posted By: David Sun, May 10, 2015 IP: 99.236.194.58

Hello all! Can anyone tell me if this 8 3/4" long serving spoon is Qianlong? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! David.

Your spoon is a contemporary product, probably from one of the porcelain ornamentation factories in Hong Kong or Macao. The mark is applied by decal or stamp, so is just another aspect of the transfer decoration, which process wasn't used in the Chinese porcelain industry on a commercial scale until the early 20th century.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanx allot Bill! So any idea as to age? David.

When I termed the spoon a 'contemporary' product, I meant to say it was made at least in my own time on earth. Though I can avow to being born well before yesterday, and while I think the term fits the age of most members in this forum, my desire to shun further presumption makes me think it best for others to define 'contemporary' by their own yardstick. :)
