Subject:Chinese silk print
Posted By: Raphael Sat, Jun 27, 2015 IP: 71.234.114.167

Hey all,

Long time observer of the forum, some great information here. I just picked up this fun Chinese painting on silk but know absolutely nothing about it. I'd love to get some information on the artist and/or the inscription in the attached. The sticker on the back indicates that it was purchased at the Wah Cheong Gallery in HK.

Thanks so much for any info you can provide!

The title is 闲话桒麻, or basically "gossiping about rural life". The third character is a variant of 桑 (mulberry), and the last means hemp, together they refer to farming life. The cursive inscription includes "early spring, 壬寅 year" (1902, or perhaps 1962 of 1842)and a studio or location name I can't read, but not the artist's name, and I can't quite make out the content of the seal, which may be part of the artist's name or a pen name reading 會出。
