Subject:Ming Dynasty art - what is it?
Posted By: Emily Sat, Aug 01, 2015 IP: 107.72.164.108

My grandparents bought this in China in the 70s or 80s and claim that it is Ming Dynasty art. Can anyone confirm this or offer suggestions on how to determine its value? Also, what do the characters translate to?

Someone may be able to translate the writing (I can not), but without a clear photo of the entire painting, no determination of age or value can be made.

Can't tell solely from photos of an inscription, this could have been made recently and then distressed, or it could indeed have some age. Please post clear images of the painting/calligraphy and any details you think are important and we can take a closer look. Ming pictures were not available for random foreign visitors to buy in China in the 1970s or 1980s unless they were deemed of low quality; it is improbable the picture is Ming on that basis alone.
