Subject:Date & Artist of Republic grisaille brushpot

Trying to do my best with reading these small Chinese characters on this 6" tall brushpot.

I think the date is Ren Wu (1942), but I'd appreciate help from a more skilled eye than mine.

Also, any help with the artist is appreciated.
