Posted By: David Sun, Oct 25, 2015 IP: 99.236.194.58

Hello all! Can someone please tell me if this is a seal or currency bar and from which reign/ emperor? It measures: 3" high x approx. 1 1/8" wide and weighs 200g. Any assistance with this query would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! David.

It's not a seal but it is silver according to the characters. the first photo is the character for snake 蛇 above that is the 12 animals of the chinese zodiac.

the second photo says 生肖寶銀 the 12 chinese zodiac silver.

there is a person selling the ox and the rabbit one on a chinese website and he/she says its from 國民時期 the republic of china period (1911-1949)

URL Title :rabbit one

This is supposedly a Year of the Snake "silver" bar. On your top picture, the circle on the top shows the Chinese Zodiac of 12 animals. Below it is the Chinese character of snake and the picture of a snake below the character.

On the other side, the four characters basically said Chinese Zodiac (12 animals) precious silver, then below it the chop mark is probably the maker of the bar. Unfortunately, your silver bar does not appear to be made of silver to me. Any jewelers can test it for you. Good luck.
