Subject:Large White Vase
Posted By: ksb36 Mon, Oct 26, 2015 IP: 50.4.165.132

Hello, all.

I recently purchased this very large (22" tall) white vase. At first, I thought it was Korean, but now I am thinking it is probably Chinese. No markings, no chips or cracks. It was clearly hand thrown, in two pieces, given its size. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

it is Chinese, but very new. I've seen this type of vase being sold at lamp / lighting stores. the shape is special in Chinese culure (pear shaped). However, the rippled surface and rather earthy/ dull color of the white tells you of the rather poor quality of the porcelain. I guess it looks 'old' to decorators who buy this sort of vase to make lamps.
