Subject:Chinese Ivory Glaze Porcelain Figure
Posted By: Steven Wed, Jan 27, 2016 IP: 2.223.96.251

Hello
i have owned this Attractive Asian lady Figure for a Few years always with the mind to research her at some point. i believe she is of Chinese origin and probably early 20th century maybe a little earlier.
she is approx 36 cm tall.

i have not seen this Ivory glaze on any other Asian porcelain, it is similar to the Blush ivory on antique Worcester.

Could anyone tell me where she originates from and if she actually is Chinese or infact European in the Chinoserie style, also any approx age dates and what this ivory like glaze may be called?

Kind regards
Steven

Not having seen anything quite like this in Chinese art, I think European is a good bet.

Interesting ceramic figure made to look like stained ivory. Appears to have been made in 3 pieces, which, if true, would seem to be unusual even for a European piece. Hard to tell if it was slip-cast (later technique), or press-molded (earlier technique) because it is so finely finished. It reminds me of some Chinese and Goan ivory figures (although most Goan figures are religious rather than secular) made for the Portuguese-Spanish market. The coloration resembles Chinese grisaille porcelain, which might be a clue to origin.

Hello Steven!
I am pretty sure I have seen something very very similar. I do not want to mislead you though.
I believe what I saw was German hallmarked figure and I am pretty sure I have picture of it - I am trying to find it.
Best regards!
