Subject:amazing head scratcher

I have NO clue what this is.. any bright bulbs in the crowd that can help me out? I'm thinking its half of a 2 or 3 piece set but what the set could be or does just has me totally baffled!!

anybody with a clue for me will be granted a huge no prize with all my hearty thanks!!

Looks like a button off a coat.

Don't know why it should have an Asian-art connection. Since it is molded, could have been made anywhere.

The ivory looks quite attractive. It strikes me as Japanese, but I don't know enough about Japanese items to know how it might have been used either.
