Subject:Old Japanese bronze vase markings help needed
Posted By: Matthew Nowogurski Fri, Mar 04, 2016 IP: 73.176.242.91

I have an old bronze vase I believe to be Japanese. I acquired it several years ago and have never been able to find out anything about it. Help needed with an artist or shops name that made it and about how old it is would be really appreciated. It's about 10 inches high and 5 pounds.
Thanks ,Matt

I believe your mark, shown upside-down, probably reads "Ryuzan", although the same characters can be rendered as "Tatsuyana". The link below shows a Bonham's result for a Ryuzan-marked (but with variant 'ryu' character) Meiji-period bronze vessel with mixed metal decoration. I've flipped your picture to proper reading position below as well.

Best regards,

Bill H.
