Subject:Old Chinese Vases
Posted By: Brenda Wed, Mar 09, 2016 IP: 72.78.38.170

Am hoping to get some information on this pair of vases. I was told they were from 18th-19th century. They are definitely hand-painted and appear to be hand made. They measure 10" tall and have an artist signature on the one vase. The inside appears to show coil marks. Thanks so much for any/all information you can give. This is a great site.

The form of the vases and their decoration look to be Japanese, perhaps depicting Dutch or other European figures. The characters on the one piece read as the number 219 (二百十九). Something about the painting style (a bit naïve) and enamels (some on the muddy side) suggest to me your vases are from around the Taisho period (1912-1926).

Best regards,

Bill H.
