Subject:Re: Kutani Plate

The lefthand stack of characters in your our Kutani dish's mark looks to read 松青, for which I found the transliteration of "Matsusei" (Green Pine) being used by a chain of Taiwan supermarkets. The JDIC online Chinese-English Dictionary also gave it as the name "Sunchin". There may yet be other renditions.
I turned up a French language catalog archived by Google that mentioned the name. The image was missing from the actual catalog page, but the text was still present and stated the following (translated by machine):
"Japan
Two cups and their saucer decorated with flowers on one and birds on the other. Signed Matsuhara Sei and Matsusei?"
And that was all I spotted right offhand.
Best regards,
Bill H.
